Just a couple of days before the Afternoon Chat Book Club was scheduled to meet in July I decided to shift some things around so I could attend this one. I had read the book for June and then didn’t get to attend so I confess I mainly wanted to catch up with the members and see what everyone was doing. I quickly downloaded the book and hoped I would be able to read at least a good chuck of it before the lunch was planned.
I fell into this book and loved it on so many different levels. It had everything for a good story. Mystery, romance, history, well developed characters, multiple layers of story, suspense, and a happy ending. Needless to say, I finished it before our meeting. There are so many elements that came together to make this such a good book to recommend.
Susan Wiggs is a prolific writer and I had read at least one of her books a while back. It was called The Apple Orchard, and involved a woman named Tess and her story of secrets and second chances. It was the first in a series called, The Bella Vista Chronicles. Funny enough, I didn’t recognize that Tess (the main character in that book) was the best friend character in this book until near the end. Then I had to look back to be sure.
I love when authors connect their characters! It makes me happy to be a reader (and a writer with so much still to learn).
Happy Reading,
Liz
