This started as a simple story about a woman and her mother and their somewhat fraught relationship. After the father has died and the woman is facing a divorce, they find themselves sharing the same house. It’s also a story about a woman raised by Asia immigrants living in America, and how her values and ideals have been shaped by their unhappy marriage.
This book examines the relationships we have with family and friends and the experiences that shape who we are – both the good and the bad. Dating, second chances and finding love are themes that bring sadness and laughter to our reading. My favorite kind of story. And a few secrets to be discovered along the way make us continue reading to the very last page to see if our heroine will find her happy ending.
The plot was concise and descriptive yet fully developed. I like the author’s writing style and found it interesting to see how she tied up all the loose ends.
