Elin Hilderbrand is well known in reading circles for the big summer beach read. I had never read any of her books but decided I needed a dramatic, fun book to start off my summer.

Hollis Shaw has everything she ever wanted in life. She’s married to Matthew, a handsome surgeon who provides her with a life of privilege that includes a summer house in Nantucket some would call a castle. Her beautiful daughter, Caroline is now happily away at college and Hollis has the freedom to devote to her little food blog that has suddenly exploded into the world in unexpected ways. But after Matthew is suddenly gone from the picture, Hollis must create a new life of purpose and satisfaction from the strong relationships that still remain.

When she reads about something called a “Five-Star Weekend” she decides to host one of her own. Inviting best friends from each stage of her life, including her childhood, her college years, her mothering years, and her more recent life, she sets up a weekend for them that will never be forgotten. Her daughter, the film student, will document the activities and food for the blog.

The women have diverse backgrounds and private struggles of their own they are trying to survive. Although they all accept the coveted invitation, each have reasons why they are unsure they want to be present at this weekend celebration.

Tatum, a happy-go-lucky childhood friend still living the Island life.

Dru-Ann, a wealthy friend from college has work and relationship issues of her own.

Brooke, Hollis’s friend from their thirties lives nearby.

Gigi, a fan of the blog holds the biggest secret of all.

The Five-Star Weekend is an interesting story about special love and friendship shared between women and is filled with plenty of drama to keep you interested. It also has a beautiful beachy setting in Nantucket.

Hope you enjoy,

Liz
