Hello Summer

Who can pass up this title? Not I.

The title alone promised a fun book and more than delivered. I wasn’t disappointed with this light read advertised as the perfect book to take along

to the beach this summer. However, it had enough twists and turns to hold my interest through 480 pages with more serious undertones of sibling rivalry, politics, greed, adultery, bullying and the daily operations of newspapers in a time when people don’t read anymore.

Except us, of course!

This book combines mystery, romance and family relationships gone wrong and all of the pieces fit together nicely. I expected a sweet romance and got it from the protagonist and her childhood friend who re-connect. Sarah Conley Hawkins and her big sister are opposites. One personality trait they do share is their desire to closely guard their scrapes and bruises and show the world a strong self-assured woman. Grandma G, a true southern lady with a quirky housekeeper who once served a prison term are other delightful characters.

There were many sweet and sassy moments with lots of emotion as the differing sisters worked through their problems in order to cover a local story with national interest.

The author was a journalist for several years and has 27 books to her credit. Enjoy.

I will confess I had one question at the end of this book. A clue wasn’t resolved or I missed it on my audible recording. I love audible but I have been known to fall asleep while listening. If you know who had the conservation by the country road, please send me a comment and let me know!
