This book was a bit difficult to follow due to the many different points of view in which it was told but it was worth it in the end when the plot twist you never saw coming was revealed. The puzzle was clever and the author very talented with prose and plot, as attested from her 16K plus reviews on Amazon. Although a few were harsh, most were positive.
Perhaps it was easy for the author to hide the perpetrator when we won’t know what crime was committed until late in the novel. I couldn’t guess who the criminal was because I didn’t know what the crime was. And when I finally knew there had indeed been a murder, there was suddenly too many suspects to sort out.
In the very first scene we know something terrible has happened but not exactly what. Then the story backs up a couple of days to the guests arriving on this mostly deserted island off the coast of Ireland. We hear from many of them, in their own distinctive voice, and learn about their lives and their personal connection to the bride or groom. But we can’t find the murderer until we know who was murdered.
In addition to switching point of view, the author switches between the present and past effortlessly. If you’re looking for a more challenging read than a regular ‘who done it’, this is for you.
