Rachel North, the newest intern assigned to the prosecutor’s office, is on a thrilling ride to the top of the legal profession. She dreams of becoming an accomplished attorney like her husband. They plan to share a practice and defend the less fortunate. He is a top murder list public defender, providing justice for those accused of murder who are often railroaded into a speedy prison sentence due to their lack of funds for a proper defense.

While investigating a cold case from her past, Rachel doesn’t know whom to trust. Becoming suspicious of her own husband as well as her boss, leaves her confused and relying only on herself as she works to break the case wide open.

I would compare this legal thriller with its twisted plot to a really smart John Grisham novel. But I think the writing style is more like that of a James Patterson. I even have a photo of Hank and James Patterson together. How cool is that?

They both attended Bouchercon 2019 in Dallas, Texas (a reader/writer conference) that I was fortunate enough to also attend.

This is one of those books that has characters that you love to hate. It also has a fast pace and an amazing twist you won’t see coming. You will become unable to put the book down as the story switches between characters and periods of time before and after the murder Rachel finds herself investigating.

Hank is a best-selling author of eleven award winning novels of suspense – and I suspect this is another one. She is also a well-known reporter on Boston TV. Seems some people have more than their share of talent. But maybe a strong drive to work hard too!

You don’t want to miss this one. I’ve just discovered this author but plan to read some of her other novels.
